According to the report, the software and data industry continues to be the largest, with 31.8% of the startups in the sample. The number of unicorns in this industry has also increased significantly, from 255 in 2021 to 415 in 2022.
Healthtech has seen a sudden surge in activity, making it the second largest industry with 12.7% of the sampled startups. This industry now boasts 73 unicorns, nearly doubling its count from the previous year.
The Social & Leisure industry represents 10.4% of total startups, but has only managed to create 31 unicorns. Meanwhile, the Fintech and Ecommerce industries have demonstrated a better ability to scale, each accounting for approximately 10% of the startups in the sample and generating 219 and 152 unicorns, respectively.
The Transportation industry stands out, with only 2.6% of the startups in the sample but 81 unicorns, showing the massive scaling potential of this field. The rest of the industries are lagging behind in both representation in the sample and unicorn count.
