With 70,236 attendees hailing from 153 different countries, it was another record-breaking year for the Web Summit. The Altice Arena played host to this diverse gathering, which included 43 percent women attendees and 38 percent women speakers, highlighting a commitment to promoting gender diversity in the tech industry.
The event also saw a remarkable turnout of startups, with 2,608 eager to connect with the 906 investors present. In addition to these dynamic duos, 321 partners and over 2,100 members of the media were on hand, providing an unprecedented platform for emerging companies to gain exposure and foster meaningful collaborations.
One of the highlights of the event was the inspiring opening night address by Web Summit CEO Katherine Maher. She emphasized the importance of the Web Summit as a place that “brings together and connects people” while serving as a crucible for meaningful discussions at the intersection of technology and society.
Microsoft’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Melanie Nakagawa, also delivered a thought-provoking keynote. She painted a compelling vision of the near future, one where artificial intelligence plays a pivotal role in addressing the pressing issue of climate change. This powerful message underscored the potential for technology to be a force for positive change in the world.
Beyond the impressive lineup of speakers and thought-provoking discussions, the Web Summit was a platform for building and nurturing meaningful connections. It provided a unique opportunity for industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators to come together, share ideas, and forge partnerships.
At the event, we had the privilege of catching up with remarkable individuals and groups who are making significant contributions to the tech world. We met with the Women in Tech group, our friends from the KosICT Tech Festival, and had the pleasure of engaging with great entrepreneurs like Shailendra Tomar and women in venture capital such as Sydney Wong and MBA Jessica Sophia Wong. Special shoutouts also go to the Fongit crew, including Elmira Gazizova, David Giron, and Ekta Sikder, for their inspiring work.
